How to download a Threads video

A step-by-step guide to saving a Threads video on iPhone, Android, and desktop, including where to find the post link and what to do when a link fails.

Threads has no built-in save button. The video is publicly served, but the app gives you no way to keep a copy. This page covers the whole flow, plus the handful of cases where a link will not work and what to do instead.

The short version

  1. Copy the post link. In the Threads app, tap the ••• menu on the post and choose Copy link. On the web, copy the URL from the address bar.
  2. Paste it above. Drop the link into the field and press Download. We read the post's public metadata and list every media file it holds — video, photo, or a carousel of both.
  3. Save the file. Options are ordered largest first, so an HD thread download is the top row. Pick one and it saves straight to your device with a descriptive filename. Nothing is queued or emailed.

Finding the post link

This is the step people get wrong, so it is worth being precise. You need the URL of a single post, not a profile and not a search result.

  • In the app: tap the ••• menu in the top-right corner of the post, then tap Copy link. A confirmation appears at the bottom of the screen.
  • On the web: click the post's timestamp to open it on its own page, then copy the address bar contents.

A supported link looks like one of these:

  • https://www.threads.com/@username/post/ABC123xyz
  • https://www.threads.net/@username/post/ABC123xyz
  • https://www.threads.com/t/ABC123xyz

Tracking parameters such as ?igshid=… are fine — they are stripped before the lookup.

Platform notes

iPhone and iPad

Tap the ••• on the post, choose Copy link, then paste it here. The file saves to Files by default; open it and tap Share → Save Video to move it into Photos.

Android

Tap the ••• on the post and choose Copy link. After pasting here, the file lands in your Downloads folder and appears in Gallery within a few seconds.

Desktop

Copy the URL from your browser's address bar while viewing the single post, then paste it here. The file goes to your usual downloads directory.

Carousels and photo posts

A post can hold several files. When that happens, every item is listed separately with its own set of sizes and its own save buttons, so you can take one image out of a ten-image carousel without downloading the rest.

When a link does not work

The tool tells you which of these applies rather than showing a generic failure, so match the message to the cause:

  • Private or restricted. The account is private, the post is follower-only, or it is age-gated. The media is not publicly served, so there is nothing to fetch. There is no workaround, by design.
  • Post not found. It was deleted, or the link is mistyped. Reopen the post in Threads and copy the link again.
  • Points to a profile, not a post. Open the individual post first, then copy.
  • No media found. Text-only posts have nothing to download.
  • Link expired. Meta's CDN URLs are time-signed. If you left the results on screen for a while, run the lookup again for fresh links.

Quality

Threads publishes each item at several sizes and all of them are listed, largest first. Take the top row and you get the biggest rendition Threads publishes, streamed through with no re-encode, no downscale, and no watermark.

Two caveats worth being straight about. That top rendition is Threads' own copy, not the untouched file from the uploader's camera roll — no downloader can reach that one. And nothing is upscaled: if the original was recorded at 720p, no tool can turn it into 1080p, whatever it claims.
